HOW DO YOU DEFINE DEVELOPMENT

The issue of human development indices have continued to pose a great challenge the world over.

Lately it is becoming more of a developing (better still underdeveloped) world challenge. But lets for the puirpose of this post see it as adding value to human existence such that they feel better than the animals in the wild.

Quite disturbing is the fact that, most of the underdeveloped countries whose leaders and citizens tend to show-off some synthetic afluence or orpulence live below the poverty line even in the midst of plenty.

That Nigerian Educational system is or has lost respect, social infrastructure decayed, political structure fractured by godfatherism and large scale fraud, corruption at its peak (post Obasanjo) and state driving policy constantly surmasulting is most probably not news to anyone even in the remotest part of the world.

I woke up one morning to go-a-fishing for daily bread only to find out that a two year old bridge contract awarded by the ogun state government in the border ojodu area has been swallowed-up by the stream measuring about 17metres in width. Now the implication is that you could only cross by walking knee deep in across the stream or ride in a canoe. and still get wet in either case.

Despite apeals to the government (local and state) to find a lasting solution to the perennial crisis it has continued to fall on deaf ears.

My guess therefore is that perhaps NGOs which have taken over government responsibilities should come to our rescue, but only some few days back i noticed big sign posts placed at certain intervals along the road reading "FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA, TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED". Now I or we seem to have hope, but then.....

We can only but hope.
